I know I have been quite inactive the past month, alot of private stuff going on and upcoming exams, but I will try to be more active again from now on. Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy EventsRemember how Nintendo was showcasing some of their E3 games at participating Best Buy stores around the country? Well, apparently Microsoft employees have been hired to go to these events and preach about the Xbox One and make comments like "why would you buy a outdated Wii U when the Xbox One is right around the corner?"
However, the employees aren't getting what they hoped for. Most customers just start bashing the Xbox One in response. Seriously, Microsoft, the people attending these Best Buy Wii U events are people who are intimately familiar with the crap you pulled at E3. They ain't takin' your shit.
At first I thought this might just be a case of one really loyal Microsoft employee taking matters into his own hands (especially since the original source was /v/), but reports have come in from numerous Best Buy's around the country that indicate many Microsoft employees have ambushed the demo lines trying to persuade people to switch to the Xbox One.

The Used Game ParadigmOver the course of this past generation I've been watching the video game market react to the way it's been forced to deal with increasing changes. I've come out against used game sales and even written a journal about boycotting GameStop because (like most people at the time) I believed they were the root cause of all the problems the video game industry has. But that's something I don't believe now as intently as i did then. From where I sit, piracy and used games sales are a problem, but not in the way game companies want us to believe that they are.
Used games are a good thing for consumers. We get to try games out, and if we don't like what we see or finish it early, we trade it in and try another title instead. It's a very good system for us since video game rentals are much harder to come by. Most video rental stores in America have gone extinct and outside specific Red Box Kiosks there aren't a lot of places for consumers to rent video games. The exception, of course, being thr

Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)

There are two ways to write a novel. Plotting (you make an outline, a plan, a roadmap if you will, and then you sit down and write it) and pantsing (you write "by the seat of your pants, throwing caution to the wind). So when I get asked if I'm a plotter or a pantser, I'm all like er, uh, hold on, let me? Pantser? I think? But I kind of, um, do planny things?
And it gets kind of awkward because in these inarticulate moments I have managed to confuse everyone including myself. And probably spilled a drink.
In recent discussions, however, I've had a bit of a revelation, silly as it is. I've realized that I -- like many writers -- am a plotter/pantser hybrid. And perhaps what I'm doing is something we could call Pantsing Responsibly. And, maybe, just maybe, I could share some of my responsible pantsing tips with other writers. Starting with paper notebooks.

SPIKE updatesJust thought I'd share with you guys some updates on the progress of finishing my "SPIKE" novel.

Music Is My Inspiration ContestWell guys I've decided to start my own contest, because I had awesome feedback on the idea ^_^

It's been a while since I used the blog here and it seems that in the meantime dA has decided to renew this design as well. Because of course you can never keep things the way they were even if they worked without problems. Oh well. At least they didn't take it the complicated FaceTwatterSpace-synchronised route, so it's still functionable.

Livejournal is down again, as it has been pretty much for the whole of the past week sans some few hours of lucidity in the afternoon before the US wakes up. I'm feeling vaguely sorry for those stupid enough to pay for those services, considering the frequency with which the site goes down.

So... what's been going on in my life for those who don't read my LJ... Uh. The thing is, the reason why I rarely bother updating this (or my LJ) with anything relevant is because there's hardly anything noteworthy going on. I mean, I spend my day at the university in lectures and study groups, then I go home and do the assigned tasks for the day, eat, and spend my meagre freetime nerding. That is, reading fic on kinkmemes and occasionally trying to write something not-German and not-academic for my own amusement. My social life has more or less withered pretty much out of existence but I can't claim that I'm very bothered by it. (And I hatehatehate the version of MSN for Vista, which puts me off from signing on much too often.)

Aaaand I can't think of a proper way to end this entry. Argh. My nose has been sort of dry and stuffed for the past week or so and I don't know what's up with it. I don't feel ill otherwise and it didn't get any better even after I vacuumed and aired the whole apartment. Annoying.

So, I'm off to read Goethe's Werther until the literature lection at 2 p.m.
