The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Errrrr. So.

My internet's broken. :"D I have no idea what happened but it's simply not working anymore. I'm hoping my ex-flatmate will pass by the flat some day so I can ask her what's going on. It should've worked until the 17th of this month.

Damn. But at least in the meantime there's a free computer classroom available at the university... and I guess there's a wireless connection here, too, which my laptop might be able to pick up, but the damn thing (the laptop, I mean) is a bit too heavy to carry in my backpack every day. So.

...

Mmm. I'm slowly getting used to the idea of myself as a university student, though I still feel mentally like a high schooler. :"D Though at least I haven't gotten lost yet! Kinda. Sorta. The lecture room of today's last class took a while to sort out, though, but thank goodness for the Info booths in every building. :"D

So, so far everything's going all okay. Some of you know I completely forgot to bring any lamps with me when I moved (9 p.m. + a pitch black flat + fear of darkness = not a happy me), but that's fixed now and I can actually read in my room. XD

Should kinda write, or at least start writing, an essay for Miebs's class (jesus fuck, but the guy is seriously scary ;A; I'm scared to answer questions in his lessons because he looks angry all the time) and possibly read some of the 40+ printouts we've been handed during the first week... Argh.

Throat's feeling a bit achy and nose is completely stuffed. I hope it won't get any worse. :/ DO NOT NEED TO GET SICK DURING THE FIRST WEEK GODDAMNIT.
