The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n

Design Contest WIN 4000 POINTS, 20$ AND MORE!I've wanted to hold a design contest for a long time now, and finally I've gathered enough points to do it

What I'm looking for:
Everything! Wolves, foxes, fennec foxes, ferrets, servals, bobcats, tigers, other big cats, small cats, deers, dragons, gryphons, dogs, birds, hybrids, original species.. bring it!
I'm leaving the details to your imagination, but here are some things I really like:
-White base color with black and red markings<33 (mostly on canines)
-Cute and fluffy things! No need to go all big eyes and oversized heads, but animals with fur. Creepy and slimy things just aren't my thing.. Still don't be afraid to make something dark/evil
-Anything tribal
-Native american stuff
-Feathers!
-Tawny, golden, brown, white, red, blue, cyan, gray, black (well, not all combined)
-I like more natural base colors, but with smaller markings in unnatural colors like blue or red
-Long tails, big/long

Callibrate your Wacom tutorialHad you finally made the transition from intuos 3 to intuos 4?, or Are you rich to change into an intuos 5? Had you made the transition from a first generation cintiq to the new ones?. More levels of pressure will mean more quality to the paintings, am i right?.
Did you thought that by default the pen will it be like using butter on bread?, you try it for the first time and you love all of it, you said i have sooooooo much control on my strokes im having a blast. Then only to realize you only have total control of the brush but when you are moving it really slow?. But when you do quick strokes the pressure drops a lot of paint making you redraw tons of stuff?
Did you ever thought that painter its hard to handle with new tablet? Too much pressure? If it has more pressure why i cant control more easier the beggining of the stroke which is more crucial?.

First day in

So, today was the first "real" day at the university. ... Though it was a soft landing to say the least, as I only had one lesson (Ausspracheübungen = pronunciation practice). Also a mess-up with the first two supplemental courses has finally been resolved so that the lessons don't overlap. Seems I might not have lessons on Mondays at all... unless I choose to attend/can fit into the Russian or linguistics basic courses.

Hmh. Anyway.

The contract of my next flat is ready and signed, as of yesterday. I'll just have to wait Kela to inform me about the housing benefit (I sure as hell hope I'll get one!). But the student grant should start coming in starting from next Monday, so that's some good financial news! : D

I'm a bit frustrated at the moment, to be honest. For once I actually would have some energy to go out and do something, but just tonight there's nothing to do! Yesterday there was a party of sorts at the YO-talo ("University-house" ... in English, I guess) but I was too tired to go. Apparently there'll be something tomorrow as well, because it's the official start of the semester, but I wonder if I will have any energy left anymore. :/

... So I've been watching Gurren Lagann on the Internet (I found the first volume in Fantasiapelit today and bought it on a whim :"D).

Will need to visit Kuopio next weekend (sooner than I expected) because my flatmate's moving out and I need to get my own dishes and cooking stuff here. Hhhhhhh.
